Private James Monroe Lindsey

James Monroe Lindsey was born on November 23, 1826 in Loughlendale County, Alabama. In the spring of 1863 he enlisted in Capt. George E. Walker's Co E, Col. Inge's 12th Mississippi Cavalry. In the fall of 1864 he transferred to Nathan Bedford Forrest's escort and served there for the rest of the War. Private Lindsey was officially paroled, listed as $50, on May 10, 1865 at Gainsville, AL by Maj. Gen. E. R. S. Canby and took oath of allegiance #79 on August 5, 1865 in Mississippi by Justice of the Peace J. C. Gilstrap. He died on December 21, 1915 and is buried in the Bellevue, Texas cemetery.
